What I learned this week

Something that I never really paid attention to is that it can be hard to define family.  Each person grows up in a different environment which changes our view of family.  My definition of family is a mother and father where there is love and a connected harmonious feeling.  Family is important because that is where you learn new things and become who you are.

I learned in my family 160 class that their are trends in the US.  Some of the trends are that divorce is increasing, cohabitation is increasing, people are getting married latter, more employed moms with younger children under six, and birth rates are decreasing.  These are some example of trends and me and my classmates noticed how they all affect each other.  For example, if people are getting married later then they will probably not have as many children.  It is interesting how trends can affect other areas of our lives.

I also learned about the challenges of collecting data.  I need to be careful to not be bias when writing papers and just look at the facts.  If everyone would do this then their wouldn't be as many bias papers and more credible sources.  Its important to understand percentages and charts because they can sometimes trick you.  I have already learned some new things this week and I'm starting to think about other peoples view instead of only my own  opinion.

Hello everyone, I am KateLyn Capener.  I am a freshman at BYU-Idaho and I am making this blog for Family Relations 160.  I am going to use this blog to write what I have learned in class.  A little about me is that I was born in Portland, Oregon.  I enjoy going on vacations, especially to places that have beautiful beaches.  I like basketball, crafts, singing, and being with friends and family.  My favorite fruit is watermelon and I love peppermint ice cream.  I am from Pleasant View, Utah and I love it there because I am surrounded by mountains and it's a beautiful area.  I am looking forward to seeing how things go at BYU-Idaho and meeting new people.
